IM-Maoists, MPCE and Modi, IB’s Leaks, and Chomksy’s 9/11 denial.

This “fait accompli” of Indian Mujahideen (IM) was announced by India Today on 19 July 2013. Intelligence Bureau (IB) was caught napping once again and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was clueless after 12 days of “serious speculations” after the Bodh Gaya low intensity bomb blastsin and around the Maha Bodhi Temple complex. Needle of suspicion had already veered towards usual suspect IM, and a much smaller needle had pointed towards Maoists, who are active in the district. The balloons of speculative theories start soaring after every terror event to keep public focus riveted away from the accountability over the tragedy.
The sub editors at India Today have given a sensational spin to the story of Abhishek Bhalla, which tells of “gossip” among the investigating agencies and has turned that gossip into a “de facto” fact: Maoists and IM are comrades in terror, arms and ammunition. This is not to assert such a connection doesn’t exist, but to assert that this “outstanding spin” doesn’t even have a shred of nano-evidence in the story to support it: “The widening web of India’s home-grown terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen (IM), has now found a new haven – Jharkhand. The terror group, responsible for a series of attacks across the country, has developed strong links with some Naxalite cadres and Jharkhand, which is believed to be a Maoist stronghold, is emerging as its new hub, suggest fresh intelligence inputsaccessed by Mail Today… following the arrest of an IM suspect, Manzar Imam, by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in March this year.  Imam, who hails from Jharkhand, disclosed during his interrogation that IM is recruiting members from the state in big numbers… “Terror groups often share information and are in touch with each other,”… Sources said even in the past Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) had made attempts to support the Naxalites in India… “It is possible that these IM commanders in Pakistan are instructing their cadres in India to foster ties with the Naxalites,””. This is all the “Air” that the inflated “IM-Moaists” balloon has.
Narendra Modi is idolized by a section of vociferous and highly partisan sections among the educated well-heeled and lionized for his स्वर्णिम गुजरात (Golden Gujarat) development model. He is seen by them as the “final solution” to the UPA’s gross misrule and all that ails India. Modi has assiduously helped cultivate that image and is a master of “political brand building”. However the promise better life held out by Brand-Modi to common man is not borne out by the figures released of Average Monthly Per Capita Expenditure (MPCE) from the 68 round of survey conducted by National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO). Survey was conducted over 2011-12. Times of India report of today has culled some findings of NSSO survey. The percentage change figures compare 1999-00 and 2011-12 period, which roughly coincides with Modi rule of end 2001 to date. The more the people spend suggests that they have more money for their needs and they are using it to improve their lives with it.
·        Gujarat has slid from 4th place in 2000 to 8thplace in MPCE of Rural Households.
·        Its MPCE of Urban Households shows that it has performed less worse by sliding down only two positions to 9th rank over all from 7th earlier.
·        The percentage change in MPCE for Urban households from 1999-00 to 2011-12 shows that Gujarat was placed in bottom five states with % change of 177, which was less than national average of 190%.
·        Gujarat did marginally better in percentage change figures for Rural households with 170% change over the period compared to national figure of 165% change.
Figures are hardly flattering to a Chief Minister, who proposes a “Gujarat development model” for the whole country. The common man has little to cheer from even if one were to grant that all that Modi claims is truth, truth, and nothing but the truth. There is more Hype than Hip in Modi’s sashaying.
Rajinder Puri in his opinion piece in The Statesman writes that on the heels of disclosure of contents of the letter former DGP of Gujarat Police, R B Sreekumar, wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee, the Times Now news channel brandished on its show a “leaked” IB document that “proved” how president’s secretariat had imparted sensitive national security information to foreign spies over the telephone. That means IB has voluntary confessed to its wiretaps into Rashtrapati Bhavan telephone exchange, which presumably must have highest level of security and encryption protection. That is if the leaked document is genuine. I somehow could find no link to Times Now story, but suppose that veteran journalist like Puri won’t make such basic mistake to base his opinion on non-existent “leak”. Puri says Sreekumar wrote, “Any action to anoint IB officials, accused of collaboration in the fake encounters, with the oil of innocence, violating the procedure established by law, would result in the IB degenerating into India’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI)”. Then he adds, “Immediately thereafter, the IB leaked a document to Times Now, alleging that the President’s secretariat had breached national security by imparting sensitive security information to foreign spies over telephone. The channel’s anchor waved the document in his hand for viewers to see. According to the IB allegation, foreign spies extracted valuable and sensitive information that imperiled national security from Rashtrapati Bhawan officials, while keeping their true identities hidden”. Therefore, Puri’s conclusion, that the “internecine turf war”, which has irrupted over the probe into Gujarat Fake Encounter cases, particularly Ishrat Jahan case, has now spilled its dirt into the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Gaffney, who wrote this piece in Information Clearing House, openly acknowledged his personal debt (This kind of accessibility and generosity has no parallel in my experience, and it explains my respect for the man and my reluctance to criticize him) to Chomsky and also praised his scholarship and sterling contribution to civil liberties since Vietnam war protests in 60s. However, the best minds among us are not infallible too. I had commented on a small error of judgment Chomsky made over Nandigram Protests that dismayed Mahashweta Devi. This background is very important to what Gaffney had to say about Chomsky and 9/11: “During a recent interview on Democracy Now, Noam Chomsky stated that he believes Osama bin Laden was probably behind the attacks of September 11, 2001.i The statement was curious because in earlier interviews Chomsky described the evidence against bin Laden as thin to nonexistent, iiwhich was accurate and, no doubt, explains why the US Department of Justice never indicted bin Laden for the 9/11 attacks… Now, on to the evidence: In two peer-reviewed papers published in 2008-2009, independent scientists reported finding residues of nanothermite, an incendiary, in dust samples from the collapsed World Trade Center. The scientists also found tiny flakes of unexploded nanothermite.iii They found, in other words, not just the smoking gun but the gun itself. Nanothermite was originally developed for the US military at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.iv… In its final report on Building Seven, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) tacitly conceded that the 47-story high-rise, with a base the size of a football field, dropped into its footprint at free-fall speed.vii The admission of free-fall was damning because this is the sine qua non of a controlled demolition… A statistical study by Allen Poteshman published in 2006 in the Journal of Business found that early press reports about pre-9/11 insider trading were almost certainly correct. Poteshman studied trading data from the Chicago Board Option Exchange (CBOE), and concluded that “there is evidence of unusual option market activity in the days leading up to September 11 that is consistent with investors trading on advance knowledge of the attacks.”xChomsky’s recent statements on Democracy Now, however, indicate that his views on 9/11 have not evolved and may even have regressed. Therefore, I believe we must now hold Chomsky (and other left-wing gatekeepers) accountable for statements about 9/11 that amount to denial. Sorry, but there is no other word for it… Judging from his emails, Chomsky thinks 9/11 truth is a distraction, “I’m surprised, however, that you cannot see that if your claims [about 9/11] are correct, the [sic] absolve George Bush and point the finger at Saddam and bin Laden. History may regard it as curious that so many people have labored so hard for 9 years to establish this conclusion, believing themselves to be courageous dissidents, and having no impact on policy apart from drawing energy away from activism to oppose shocking crimes of state.”xiii”.

Dd you notice the subtle attempt at distortion here? That if some non-Muslim is caught in an act of terror he is naturally not a Sanghi, cant be for they are all nationalists, patriots. Such a person has to be some Maoist/Naxalite. And while the IB happily propounds such kitsch the embedded media happily laps it upRegardsFaraz
